Papers of Horatio Justus Perry, 1837-1892 (inclusive).

Contains chiefly original outgoing correspondence of Perry to his sisters Ellen Perry Peirson and Martha Ann Perry Lowe. Letters document Perry's life from the time of his Harvard graduation through his diplomatic career and business ventures to his retirement. They pertain especially to his many years at the U.S. legation in Madrid and contain comments on political and social events of the period. Other papers include correspondence addressed to Ellen Peirson from Perry's wife Carolina Coronado and from his classmate at Harvard Edward Wheelwright; clippings, obituaries, and engraving of Perry; and poems and biography of Carolina.
